Top 10 Protein & Fruit Smoothies

Never miss a meal again! We all have our own reasons for drinking smoothies and over the past few years they have become very popular. I drink a variety of smoothies a few times a week. I also recommend them to my clients too because aside from them tasting delicious, they have a lot of health benefits.

My Top 5 Reasons to Drink Your Fruit and Veggies.

1. Did You Eat Today?

Many people skip meals. When you skip one you find yourself over eating at the next meal and making bad decisions because you are now so hungry that you will eat anything. Breakfast is the most commonly skipped meal. A smoothie that includes carbohydrates, protein, and good fats is a good meal replacement option for breakfast and great way to kick- start your metabolism for the day.

2. Your Daily servings of Fruit and Veggies.

Do you eat enough fruit and vegetables? Most of us don’t. When we get busy we tend to just grab the quickest snack and then gravitate towards the carbs and protein when go out to eat. I have learned that smoothies are liked by even the pickiest eater. One of my favorite smoothies includes both spinach and avocado in it but I don't even taste them! By including veggies in my smoothies, I am staying on track with my macro counts for each meal. (Macro counts= protein, carbohydrates and fats within your daily calorie count)

3. Get Your Protein.

Protein aides in building and maintaining muscle. It is especially important to have a protein filled snack/meal during/after a workout because during your workout you are breaking down your muscle and you want help increase the efforts of your exercise. Carbohydrates provides your body with energy and makes it easier to absorb the protein, so combining both together is a great way for keeping your energy up and get the best results from your exercise. If you are feeling fatigued during your work out it may come down to that you are not having enough protein in your diet. Make an effort to eat more protein through your diet or special bars and shakes to feel better.

4. Replaces High-Calorie Meals.

Many of us are always on the go and don't have the time to make a healthy meal or wait at a restaurant for a To-Go order. Fast food meals, which are convenient, are on average 1,000 calories and most likely missing a macro-nutrient (protein, carb, fat). Smoothies can help to maintain a healthy metabolism by replacing high calorie meals.

5. Load Up on Nutrients.

Smoothies that are made with fresh fruit and vegetables are filled with fiber, vitamins and minerals. I hate taking pills so I choose to drink my vitamins. By drinking a few smoothies a week, I guarantee that I am getting my recommended daily dose of fruits and veggies. Each fruit and vegetable offers different health benefits so have fun with it! Make up your own recipes and remember to keep it balanced so don't be afraid to include your veggies!

Prepare ahead of time: in plastic Ziploc bag or containers combine ingredients together except for the liquid, protein powder and ice.
